Although rumors of their existence were current in the 19th century, no example of either date was known to the numismatic community until many years after their dates of issue. Only 10 examples of the 1884 Trade dollar are known to collectors today, making the issue a classic rarity, in the same class as the 1804 dollar and the 1913 Liberty nickel. Heritage Auctions is privileged to present the third-finest certified example of this enigmatic rarity from the fabulous Bruce Sherman Collection in this important offering.
