1911-14 D304 Brunners Bread Honus Wagner #24 BVG EX 5 - Pop One, None Higher! Hall of Famer Honus Wagner was one of MLB's best shortstops in history. An eight-time National League batting champ with the Pittsburgh Pirates, he recorded a lifetime batting average of .328 with 3,420 hits to his credit. He also led the Bucs to their first World Series title ever by defeating Ty Cobb's AL Champion Detroit Tigers in 1909, four games to three. For his outstanding efforts, he was a deserving member of the Baseball Hall of Fame's inaugural class of 1936.
Offered is a regionally issued D304 collectible that carries plenty of mystique. Card #24 featuring Wagner was packed out as a fragile bread insert with Brunners Butter Krust Bread in Buffalo, New York, between 1911 and 1914. This was part of an extremely rare, 25-card set released by Brunners, with the Wagner card topping the checklist. Though not as heavily pursued as the famed T206 Wagner, the presented D304 issue is also coveted on a level of rarity all its own. This example of card #24 shows "The Flying Dutchman" taking a big swing on a picturesque field of dreams. Boasting vivid colors, nice centering and a clean reverse, this is a very attractive specimen showcasing one of baseball's greatest players ever. Graded BVG EX 5. According to the Beckett Pop Report, this is one of only two D304 cards entered featuring Wagner and the only one graded EXCELLENT with none rated higher.
