VERY SCARCE DATE. ONLY 4 COINS GRADED HIGHER AT NGC.
Produced the extent of just 970,000 pieces, the 1926-S is probably the most instantly recognizable key-date issues in the Buffalo Nickel series. Perhaps not surprisingly in light of the total number of coins produced, the 1926-S is one of the most challenging Buffalo Nickels to locate in all grades. In fact, in AU and Mint State, the '26-S is the rarest issue in this popular 20th century series. Worn reverse dies are the norm, and they prevent most otherwise eligible examples from grading higher than MS-64.
